Tax Accounting Associate/Assistant (Intermediate tax preparer/bookkeeper)

The job requires high level problem solving abilities, broad software knowledge, and excellent written and oral communication skills. We have a team approach to provide clients with high quality service for tax compliance, planning, tax accounting, tax and general business consulting.

Essential Functions - Managing following duties independently:

  • Bachelor Degree candidate is preferable, however Associates degree or relevant combination of accounting and tax education and experience may be considered
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently
  • Able to perform work in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision with strong goal orientation and self-motivation qualities; uses initiative as opportunities permit
  • Requires proficient computer skills with solid knowledge(intermediate level or higher in MSOffice applications-database Business Contact Manager, Excel-including pivot tables & charts, Access
  • Ability to learn new technology quickly
  • Requires solid understanding of basic accounting and tax functions, hands on experience working with the General Ledger
  • General accounting duties include recording transactions, classifying postings, footing columns, and testing extensions to verify accuracy
  • Additional duties require filing documents, inputting information into spreadsheets and other systems, sorting incoming client records, scanning and archiving client records, as well as administrative jobs and special projects as assigned
  • A key role in the completion of account reconciliations, preparing year end tax schedules and assisting with tax preparation of business and individual tax returns, business 1099s and W2s.
  • Keep up to date on new tax legislation as it applies to assigned work to determine effect on clients.
  • Required to assist in work flow management to ensure strong client service standards are maintained
  • Strong analytical, yet creative, thinking skills to enable effective decision-making and problem solving
  • Ability to improve or modify existing processes to effect efficient office procedures
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management, continually interacting to gather and prepare information and provide support
  • Excellent verbal, written and electronic communications skills with the ability to effectively interact with clients
  • Excellent client service orientation with an ability to handle pressure in a positive, professional manner.
  • Will engage with clients as assigned and as needed to obtain necessary information and assist with completed tax filings.
  • Required to maintain technical skills through available in house resources and continuing professional education.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of personalities by projecting a professional image in person and over the phone

  • Adaptable to a deadline-driven environment that demands accurate, high quality work prepared
  • Strong attention to detail, have organizational and time-management skills, manage multiple priorities simultaniously  and accurately in dead-line driven environment is essential.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours as needed particularly during Jan-Apr, and as required to meet a deadline; dependability is crucial at  time-sensitive time periods.
  • Sedentary Work: role is mainly sedentary, with frequent sitting, and occasional walking and/or standing.  It involves frequent use of a telephone, PC and standard monitors.  There are minimal lifting requirements, may require exerting up to 20lbs of force occasionally (light office maintenance) and occasional amount of force to lift, carry push, pull, or othewise move objects up to 50lbs(water bottles, paper cases, snow in winter)
  • Work Hours: general tax accounting office hours are Mon-Fri 8am-5pm CST.  Work hours and starting times may vary depending on the job and business needs.  Some positions will have a specified starting time, and may be earlier or later, depending upon business requirements.  The normally scheduled workweek for all full-time employees consists of 30-40 hours.
